Ray Penny

My introduction to music was ‘Uncle Mac’s children’s hour’ on his mum and dad’s wireless in the 1950’s.

So much so that for some reason, at the age of 9, when home from school sick one day, I started playing the drums.

My musical influences have been 50’s Rock ‘n’ Roll, and 60’s Soul. When my first band folded in 1969 I started my own mobile disco, ‘The Hole in the Wall’.

Fast forward to 1975, I was lucky enough to bag the job of travelling around the world as an international DJ for the Hilton group, EMI and the Forte group until 1984 when I stepped out of the disco scene.

I founded and run my own successful brewery in Gloucestershire for 25 years and I qualified as a Microbiologist.

Now retired and when I am not broadcasting on Soul Groove Radio, I keep myself busy, delivering Jaguars, Range Rovers and Land Rovers around the country.

My daily shows are from 7am to 9am Monday to Wednesday.
